Upcoming movie stars in Nigeria have been advised to carve a niche for themselves by being distinctively creative, hardworking and humble.
Handing down the advice during an interaction with journalists in Uyo, veteran actor Emmanuel Etukudo, said the movie industry is losing its glamour because of what he described as staleness.
“Today, I see lots of actors, especially the upcoming ones trying to imitate certain persons. There is nothing wrong in learning from a role model but when you are trying to perform exactly like the other person, you place a big burden on yourself. Creativity makes someone special. Undue copying leads to staleness which is detrimental to the industry.
“Take for instance, the case of comic actor Ime Bishop. Many actors in his genre are imitating him so much. They want to talk and sound like him. Ime Bishop is Ime Bishop. Go and make a name for yourself.”
Mr. Etukudo also advised the Emmanuel Owuala led newly inaugurated executive of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria to ensure that the association is led properly.
On his future plans, the actor promised to continue being a major stakeholder in industry by featuring in movies, producing movies as well as mentoring the younger ones.
